When was the last time someone said, “You don’t need to bring anything. Just come”—and you actually believed them?
Many of us find it easier to help than to be helped. We’re happy to cook, organise, lend a hand or bring a plate. But receiving someone’s kindness can leave us feeling that we ought to contribute something first. Perhaps we carry that same feeling into our relationship with God: Once I’ve done more, tried harder or sorted myself out, then I’ll come.
Jesus tells a story that invites us to pause. A king has prepared a wedding feast for his son. The table is set, the meal is ready, and the invitation goes out: “Everything is ready. Come.”
What might those words mean for you this week? For the responsibilities that keep piling up? For the regret you quietly carry? For the grief or worry that follows you even into otherwise happy moments?
There is something deeply comforting in the picture of a God who prepares a feast and wants us there. Yet receiving his welcome can also reveal what holds us back.
Join us for worship, and take a little time with the daily devotions throughout the week. Together, we’ll listen to this invitation, reflect on the welcome Jesus gives, and discover how his kindness makes room in our lives for others.
Come with your questions, your weariness and your hopes. There is good news waiting to be heard.
