- Good afternoon Church
- Death is something we often try not to talk about. We soften it, avoid it, or try to push it out of sight. Yet when loss comes close to us—when grief enters our homes and hearts—we realise just how real it is. The Gospel story of Lazarus in John 11 meets us honestly in that reality.
- In this powerful story, Jesus arrives at the tomb of his friend Lazarus after he has already died. Mary and Martha are grieving. The people around them are weeping. And in one of the most moving moments in Scripture, we read that Jesus himself weeps. It reminds us that God does not stand far away from our pain. In Jesus, God stands beside us in the middle of our sorrow.
- But the story does not end at the tomb. Jesus speaks a powerful word: “Lazarus, come out!” And the dead man walks out into life.
- This miracle points us to an even greater hope. Jesus declares, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Because of him, death does not have the final word. Through Christ, God brings life, hope, and freedom even in the darkest places.
